Apple

Why are ppl so big on Apple. What i have seen from them is that they are over priced and excersice what i consider a uncomfterble amount of control over thier product.Granted my ipod is the the best mp3 player i have owned, but when i went to replace my first ipod that was stolen i wanted to try a zune but was "locked" into getting another ipod cus the music i have baught from them will only play on it unless i did alot of jumping thru hoops.I thought at least this one has a video camrea. Then i learned that if i want to get the video off my ipod i had to enable disk use on it wich ment that it would no longer automaticly sync ordisconnect itself when i close i tunes. Then the video was in a format that my video editor doesnt support.(pinnacle studio). if i had a mac alls i would have to do was plug it in like i normally do.
Apple has delibratly made it harder for pc users. that piss's me off. This seams to be thier standard operating procedure.

I dropped my Iphone because it was an overpriced Ipod and most of the apps I really wanted to use cost a crap ton of money and in an area without 3G the antenna on it had issues. I switched to an Android based phone so now I get most of the apps I want to use free and I can still listen to all my Itunes music as they have an AAC codec in it. There is an app called iSync but I have not tried it yet so I have to mount the phone as a disk drive and copy over the MP3/AAC files but that is not a big deal.

Now I just need to wait until 2.2 is available for my phone so I can load apps to an SDCard instead of the phones memory.

Not a clue my friend, I agree with you on all points. And they just about ran themselves out of business with their stubbornness. For a long time they had one button mouses only, you had to have their hardware (which is good for compatibility, but bad for price reduction), etc. They finally relented on a lot of that. And they did get a little mojo back when they went to a linux based kernel, but still...

I use Windows because too many of my games require it, but I still run Linux on the side and would move my work place to it too if I didn't know I'd have a user revolt. I have to content myself with the servers I suppose!

I agree Andy. The only thing I really like about MAC is the fact of the graphics compared to windows are much better on the machines I have used, but in my line of work, using AutoCAD, which is not MAC supported at all and AutoDesk (the makers of AutoCAD) do not ever plan on making it MAC supported, so it leaves me with the choice of only Windows based. But yet other CAD programs I use are versatile enough to be dual platform oriented.

My big question is why are most of the school computers MAC based when in reality 90% of business applications are Windows based, so in the long run, kids learn on ssytems, then have to relearn on new OS's. I know my kids bring jump drives home wiht work in MAC format and I have to play havoc to run it on windows, and sometimes homework time of 30 minutes turns out to be like 2 hours or so.
I used to be sane, but then I had kids.

Apple makes it very convinient for kids in school to learn on a Mac.

It's easier when they make the hardware and right the Operating System, so when they do a program to help schools buy systems, there's no third party. Microsoft just hasn't been able to run that sort of promotion although they were getting close 5 years or so ago with Dell. Then Dell did a nose dive and Apple filled in the gap.

I think that Microsoft just focueses on educational versions of things besides Windows now. Office, Visual Studio, etc. They're dirt cheap for a student assuming that the school the kids go to isn't too lazy to get a code associated with them.

Personally, I don't believe that either is better.

I love my Iphone (the post that I think kicked off this thread) and I love my Windows based computer. I'd like to try an IPad, and I'm buying a laptop. I think they each, Windows and Mac, have strong points that are hard to argue against once you've tried them. Macs own when it comes to graphics arts use. Windows based computers are more versitile when it comes to office work, gaming, and whatnot.

I will say this for a Mac, though. There's no sliding life cycle on a Mac. Once you buy the hardware, everything written for that hardware works damn good until a few years later when the next major hardware change comes along. They're like a console in that respect. Windows-based computers definately have a sliding life cycle that in same cases has been pretty steep towards obsolecence.

Ima go ahead and compare Apple being used in schools to the Hitler Youth Program. Indoctrinate them while thier young and they will buy your products when they are older.

OK Andy, if they do end up purchasing Apple when they are older and the industry they are in career wise is PC based, I forsee serious issues in their horizons.
But I do see your point.

Or just force PC to make school appropriate systems so at least the kids will be bilingual and able to survive in the career fields period.
